In this blog post, I’m thrilled to guide you through some of my absolute best Flagstaff photo locations in. Each spot holds its own unique charm and is perfect for capturing stunning visuals throughout the seasons. With wildflowers bursting into bloom from July to September and vibrant fall colors showcasing their splendor in October and November, your photographic opportunities are endless.

Aspen Corner: Best Flagstaff Photo Locations

This location made my best Flagstaff photo location list because it offers an extraordinary experience as you ascend to the breathtaking heights of Arizona Snowbowl. Here, panoramic views of the San Francisco Peaks stretch out before you. During the summer months, the area is adorned with a tranquil pond surrounded by lush green ferns, resulting in a picturesque scene that’s perfect for photography. As fall approaches, the landscape transforms into a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors, making it an ideal location for capturing the essence of autumn. However, be prepared for a quarter-mile hike over uneven ground, which includes both downhill and uphill sections. This trail requires a moderate level of fitness to reach the swing, aspen trees and pond. To view a full session at Aspen Corner click this link.

Snowbowl Parking Lot 1: Best Flagstaff Photo Locations

The top of Snowbowl is a perfect spot to photograph the aspens and ferns, so it made the best Flagstaff photo locations list. Catch the purple wildflowers typically in June & July. This is a shorter hike than aspen corner, about a quarter of a mile on a maintained trail. If you are visiting Flagstaff, Arizona Snowbowl offers activities on the mountain during both the summer and winter month! Click here to check out their current outdoor recreational activities from gondola rides and disc golf to yoga and skiing.

Buffalo Park

This location serves as Flagstaff’s central park—a sprawling, well-maintained green space. The flat, accessible walking paths make it perfect for easy access. Incredible views of the San Francisco Peaks that serve as a dramatic backdrop during these photo sessions. To view more example of sessions at Buffalo Park, follow this link.

Lake Mary

Here, the sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm golden light that reflects off the water’s surface, resulting in breathtaking photographic opportunities. The area is surrounded by majestic ponderosa pines, their tall, stately trunks providing a beautiful frame for your images. Additionally, boulders lining the bank add texture and depth to your photographs. While this spot entails a short downhill walk to the water, be advised that it is not on a formalized trail, lending the place a sense of rustic charm and natural beauty that feels unspoiled by heavy foot traffic.

Marshall Lake

A hidden treasure that offers an intriguing and serene setting for photography. This small marshy body of water serves as a sanctuary for a variety of waterfowl. Located near the Arizona Trail, the area’s striking white rocks with flat terrain, encompass ponderosa pines and whimsical juniper trees. However, be aware that during dry months, the lake may temporarily disappear.

Baderville

Nestled at the base of Snowbowl, is a quieter, off-the-beaten-path location that showcases the beauty of Mount Humphreys. This area offers rustic charm, making it perfect for those looking to escape the busier tourist spots. To reach the abandoned cabin that adds character to this idyllic scene, clients must walk a quarter-mile along a flat, well-marked trail. Some driving may be required during the session at this location to capture multiple backdrops.

Schultz Pass

An excellent spot to capture yellow wildflowers against a backdrop of ponderosa pines, with limited walking needed to access this area.

Kachina Wetlands

Located just 10 minutes south of Flagstaff. This site features easy walking along flat, maintained trails. The best times to visit are April through October, when you can enjoy stunning views of the San Francisco Peaks.

Downtown Flagstaff

Offering an urban backdrop, downtown Flagstaff is a perfect location for clients who love the cityscape and historic buildings. For this location I do like to explore City Hall, the Orpheum and store fronts along San Francisco Street so be prepared to walk!
